The WSJ is reporting that housing sizes may be shrinking as people find that they don't qualify for supersized loans any more. Of course houses of a sane size and variety within a given neighborhood affect property values, so owners of phat pads in areas that are not yet fully built out are looking down their noses at the riffraff trying to build 'tiny' 1,500 square foot houses near their jumbo sized monuments to consumption. 'The garage looks bigger than the house' they whine. Just you wait, yuppie, next thing you know they'll dig up that grass, plant a garden and hang out some laundry to dry. OMG! WTF!

The McMansion may be shrinking. With the nation's housing market in a slump and the mortgage market in disarray, many home builders are putting up fewer supersize homes and offering smaller floor plans. That seems to be what buyers suddenly want in an era of high prices and tougher financing.More
